See How Predictive Analytics Help Discover Archaeological Sites

A team of archaeologists working for Logan Simpson, an award-winning landscape architecture & environmental planning firm headquartered in Tempe, Arizona once unearthed around 19 individual archaeological sites containing a lot of biface blades and stone points, along with other artifacts belonging to the Paleoarchaic Period, which lasted 12000 years ago. With the power of Predictive Analytics Modeling.

The exact location of the discovery site is around 100 miles or 160 km from Las Vegas, Nevada. The proficient team of archaeologists found out lakes and streams that have disappeared thousands of years before. According to the team, the site is remote and scattered across, and this is why employing traditional methods met no results. They remain unfound for years, until Predictive Modeling Analytics came into play.

The methodology of predictive modeling is not much complex. Funded by the Lincoln County Archeological Initiative, the project used GIS, or Geographic Information System technology to predict activities or things that happened during the Pleistocene-Holocene period. The model took into account how the Great Basin was wetter as well as cooler during the end of the archaic period than the climate which is prevalent there today – combining Predictive Analytics, GIS and aerial pictures, the archaeologists ranked the diverse locations across the site.

However, generalizing the use of predictive analytics in discovering archaeological sites will take some time. Tirelessly, the analysts’ and excavators are working on decreasing the classifier’s predictive errors and culminate a successful approach, involving ranking and weighing probability maps from a single ASTER image region.

The application of Predictive Analytics into the archaeology sphere has the potential to trigger us into an era of promising new discoveries. But first, you need a reliable SAS predictive modeling training. For that, drop by DexLab Analytics – their SAS certification forpredictive modeling is superb!
